Tamanrasset, gateway to the Algerian Sahara, is a region rich in geological and cultural heritage. Here, amidst the plateaus of Assekrem, one can witness a surprising ecosystem and breathtaking sunsets from their summits. Enjoy the beauty of nature, discover splendid traditional Tuareg villages, and immerse yourself in the heart of the city on this dynamic circuit.
Day 1: Tamanrasset – Assekrem
- Arrival at Aguenar Airport in Tamanrasset. Departure towards the Assekrem plateau (75 km north of Tamanrasset). Stops at:
Tahabort Gaseous Spring “Source Chapuis”.
Imlaoulaouène water point with rock engravings and intermittent pools.
Volcanic mountain Akar-Akar with rock engravings.
Afilal water point with fish indicating a wetter Sahara.
Volcanic peaks “Tizouyadj” with Mediterranean vegetation. Ascent to the Assekrem pass (20-30 min) at 2778 meters.
- Guided tour of the hermitage of Father de Foucauld (1910) by the Little Brothers of Jesus.
- Panoramic view of the Atakor massif, sunset over the peaks of Tahat and Ilamân.
- Camp at the foot of Assekrem.
Day 2: Assekrem – Hirafok
- Watch the sunrise from the Tizouyadj peaks.
- Departure to Hirafok (Touareg village) passing through the Imadouzène volcanic crater, Iratimenne pass, and the fish-filled gueltas of Issakkarassene.
- Camp in the dry riverbed of Hirafok.
Day 3: Hirafok – Mertoutek
- Departure towards the village of Mertoutek, center of the Tefedest natural region.
- Camp near the Mertoutek river.
Day 4: Mertoutek
- Visit to rock paintings and engravings from the Bovidian period.
- Return to camp for the night.
- Bivouac.
Day 5: Mertoutek – Tamanrasset
- Return to Tamanrasset passing through the village of Tite.
- Visit Tamanrasset town and souvenir shopping.
- Departure from Aguenar Airport in Tamanrasset.

Note: The displayed price is for a group of 10 people. The price varies depending on the group size: the larger the group, the lower the cost per person, and vice versa.

- A visa is mandatory for foreign nationals, but with this visa on arrival procedure for Djanet and Tamanrasset, you no longer need to visit consulates or embassies.
- The visa on arrival procedure is managed by your travel agency. Upon booking, the agency handles all necessary formalities for you.
Form and Documentation:
- At the time of booking, your agency will send you a form to fill out.
- Complete this form and return it to the agency along with a scanned copy of your passport.
Processing by the Agency:
The agency submits the completed form and a photocopy of your passport to the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts in Algeria. You will then receive a confirmation in the form of a “let pass”, typically within 15 days.
During Check-in:
Present your let pass to board. This document is essential for check-in and entry into the country.
Upon Arrival in Algeria:
You will need to present the following documents:
- Your pass.
- Pay the visa fee: €96 or 14,000 Algerian dinars. Payment can be made in cash, with the option of euros (prices subject to change).
- A bank statement or proof of income (such as a pay slip, tax assessment, or retirement certificate).
- Your round-trip airline ticket.
- Your repatriation insurance certificate.
Affixing the visa:
Once these steps are completed, a visa will be affixed to your passport, allowing you to begin your journey to Djanet or Tamanrasset.
